AMERICANS VS THE ROYALS: WHO’S GETTING MORE ATTENTION?
The survey found that three in ten Brits read more about Donald Trump than King Charles, while 30% know as much about American pop culture as they do about their own. Young adults are particularly tuned in: for example, 34% are more clued up on the Kardashians than long-running UK shows like EastEnders.
Music is another area where the US dominates. On average, 40% of the content Brits consume daily comes from across the pond. Around 23% of respondents prefer Taylor Swift’s music to Dua Lipa’s, and pop, rock, and country are the favourite American music genres. Overall, a whopping 88% of people say they enjoy some form of US culture in their British lives.
TV, FILM, AND ENTERTAINMENT INFLUENCE
It’s not just celebrity gossip that’s crossing the Atlantic. The survey shows that 18% of Brits watch more American TV than UK programming, with drama, comedy, and crime topping the list of preferred genres. From Netflix box sets to classic Hollywood films, US entertainment has made a significant impact on British viewing habits. Iconic shows like Friends and The Simpsons, Pixar films, and Broadway theatre all feature in the survey’s top 30 American imports that Brits love.
Even outside the TV screen, US culture has shaped our daily lives in ways we might take for granted. Netflix, Hollywood blockbusters, and Coca-Cola were named the top three American contributions, followed closely by rock and roll, Disneyland, and even instant coffee. These staples of American culture have found a permanent place in British homes and habits.
AMERICAN FOOD, HOLIDAYS, AND LIFESTYLE
Brits’ fascination with the US doesn’t stop at entertainment. Around 37% of respondents enjoy American food, 24% are fans of US books, and 17% follow American sports. Some even embrace American holidays: 15% celebrate Thanksgiving on UK soil, and 10% mark Independence Day on the 4th of July. From hamburgers and hot dogs to peanut butter and Starbucks, American flavours and experiences are firmly woven into UK life.
Other noteworthy entries in the top 30 American contributions include cultural icons like Elvis Presley, Martin Luther King Jr., Beyoncé, Eminem, and Halloween - alongside more everyday influences like baked beans and New York cheesecake.
WHY THE UK LOVES US CULTURE
A spokesperson from Lottoland.co.uk said: “There is so much interesting US culture at our fingertips to consume. From TV, film, and music to food and drink, the US has no shortage of things that have made it to the UK. Even politics is a hot topic - sometimes more so than the royals, according to our stats.”
The survey highlights the blending of cultures between the US and the UK, showing how much influence American pop culture has on everyday British life. Whether it’s watching the latest Netflix series, enjoying a slice of New York cheesecake, or keeping up with Hollywood stars, it’s clear that the transatlantic fascination isn’t going away anytime soon.
BRINGING US CULTURE TO LIFE WITH LOTTOLAND
It’s perhaps no surprise that the UK is also embracing US lottery draws. With so much interest in American culture, betting on Cash4Life, PowerBall or MegaMillions is a natural extension for fans, offering the chance to experience a little excitement straight from the US. Whether it’s enjoying American TV, music, or holidays, or placing a bet on the biggest jackpots, US culture has a significant presence in the UK.
